![]() In this capacity, the class served throughout much of the Empire's first galactic rule. The RCD-99 was intended to enforce security and imperial rule throughout well-developed systems, covering large areas on its patrol routes and being equipped to deal with any likely enemy activity on its own. This would change in later iterations of the class, adding a ventral hangar bay while sacrificing some missile launchers. Uncharacteristically for the Imperial Navy, the Novaclast carried no fighters of its own in the standard-configuration. The weaponry of the Novaclast sets a strong focus on anti-starfighter capabilities with an overwhelming amount of laser cannons instead of heavier turbolasers which saw use mostly against the armed freighters and corvette-types favored by pirates and criminal rings. ![]() Despite its small size, the designers of the class sought to envoke the iconic presence of the Imperial Navy, both as a reassurance to the loyal populace and a threatening monument against any rebel movement. The hull of the Novaclast draws strong inspiration from the Imperial Star Destroyer, the embodiment of the Empire's Tarkin doctrine of rule through intimidation. This is reflected both in the vessel's design and armament. The Novaclast class belonged to an early generation of new designs ordered by the Empire to combat primarily militant dissident groups and rebels rather than organized crime and piracy. The ship saw use throughout imperial territories but was predominantly deployed in systems of the mid-rim, frequently engaging starfighter formations of independent dissident movements. The RCD-99 Novaclast was a patrol frigate built by Sienar Fleet Systems and operated by the Galactic Empire at the height of its first reign.
